Genetic Diversity and Population Connectivity of the Greenblotch Parrotfish (Scarus quoyi Valenciennes, 1840) within Southern Mindanao Inferred from Mitochondrial 16S rRNA

چکیده

A genetic assessment was done on the greenblotch parrotfish (Scarus quoyi Valenciennes, 1840) in three bays within southern Mindanao, Philippines. Mitochondrial 16S rRNA recovered 12 haplotypes, one of which dominant all sites. Despite reported phenotypic variation from previous assessments, there neither evidence structure (global Φst = 0.012, p 0.13) nor isolation by distance (r 0.05, 0.50). Genetic diversity also low (Hglobal 0.472; πglobal 0.13%), with ~ 77% haplotype accounted for just 69 samples. While connectivity suggests continuous larval exchange Mindanao owing to species’ high dispersal potential, implies reduced effective population size, probably due recent bottlenecks (e.g. overfishing, habitat destruction). Although this study provides baseline information local population, inferences are considerably limited marker used and spatial scale under investigation. thorough understanding will be possible if entire range species is assessed using markers resolving power, such as hypervariable mitochondrial control region, microsatellites, or genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

Genetic identification of bucktooth parrotfish Sparisoma radians (Valenciennes, 1840) (Labridae, Scarinae) by chromosomal and molecular markers

Parrotfishes (Labridae, Scarinae) comprise a large marine fish group of difficult identification, particularly during juvenile phase when the typical morphology and coloration of adults are absent. Therefore, the goal of this study was to test cytogenetic markers and DNA barcoding in the identification of bucktooth parrtotfish Sparisoma radians from the northeastern coast of Brazil. Sequencing ...

Mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequence diversity of hominoids.

We determined nucleotide sequences of the 16S rRNA gene of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) (about 1.6 kb) for 35 chimpanzee, 13 bonobo, 10 gorilla, 16 orangutan, and 23 gibbon individuals. We compared those data with published sequences and estimated nucleotide diversity for each species. All the ape species showed higher diversity than human. We also constructed phylogenetic trees and networks. The ...

Higher-level snake phylogeny inferred from mitochondrial DNA sequences of 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA genes.

Portions of two mitochondrial genes (12S and 16S ribosomal RNA) were sequenced to determine the phylogenetic relationships among the major clades of snakes. Thirty-six species, representing nearly all extant families, were examined and compared with sequences of a tuatara and three families of lizards. Snakes were found to constitute a monophyletic group (confidence probability [CP] = 96%), wit...

Population structure of sea cucumber Holothuria parva by 16S rRNA mitochondrial in the costs of Bushehrand Halileh from Persian Gulf

Population structure of sea cucumber Holothuria parva in the coasts of Bushehr and Halileh from Persian Gulf was determined by 16S rRNA of mitochondrial genome sequencing in autumn and winter seasons of 2019. In Bushehr and Halileh populations, 2 and 4 haplotypes were identified out of 374 nucleotide sites, respectively, and haplotype 2 was the most abundant in Bushehr population and was observ...

Genetic Characterization of Argas persicus From Iran by Sequencing of Mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase I (COX1) and 16s rRNA Genes

Background: Argas persicus has a great importance for health and veterinary, it can transmit many infectious agents such as Borrelia anserina (avian spirochetosis) and Aegyptianella pullorum. Distinguishing Argasidae due to close morphological relationship is difficult. OBJECTIVES: In the present study, we performed molecular analyses based on PCR and sequencing of Amplicon derived from 16S rRN...
